Staff Update

Prior to joining JPI, Beth held a variety of positions over the past 15 years in the public, non-profit and private sectors in New York and Washington, D.C., specializing in public affairs, communications and government relations. Having held leadership roles at both the state and city levels in New York, she is widely recognized for developing legislative and community support for complex communications, policy and intergovernmental issues. Her expertise in integrated program development, issues management and grassroots strategy will be a great asset to JPI moving forward.We’re pleased to announce that Elizabeth (Beth) McCabe Deal has joined the JPI team as Communications Director.

Beth served in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration as assistant commissioner of external affairs and communications at the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. In this role, she oversaw all the communications efforts of the agency, including serving as its spokesperson and crisis management expert. She was also responsible for managing the communications strategy to support the transformation of New York State’s juvenile justice system.

Before that, she was director of government and external relations at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. While there, she advocated for its legislative policy agenda at the federal, state and city levels. She also served as an advisor on strategic planning and communications issues, including to the New York Governor’s Task Force on Transforming Juvenile Justice.

We’re also excited to announce that as of this morning, JPI has officially moved into our new office space (same building, different suite). Please note that our mailing address should now read 1012 14th St. NW Suite 600, Washington, D.C. 20005. We are eager to get settled into our new offices and continue our work to reform our nation’s justice system in partnership with all of you.
