Over the past months, JPI engaged in various research, communications, and organizing projects. Here are some of the highlights of our recent work on a local and national level. Stop Solitary For Kids

On April 19th, the national campaign Stop Solitary for Kids launched at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Senator Cory Booker, White House officials, a dvocates, research experts, corrections administrators, and elected officials gathered together to launch the campaign to end solitary confinement for youth in all juvenile and adult facilities. JPI partnered with the  Center for Children's Law & Policy , the  Center for Juvenile Justice Reform  at Georgetown University, and  the  Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators You can learn more about Stop Solitary For Kids on NPR, The Huffington Post, and the campaign's website
Department of Justice

In March, JPI's Marc Schindler and Jason Ziedenberg presented the findings from the JPI report  Sticker Shock: Calculating the Full Price Tag for Youth Incarceration  to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention senior staff. Along with OJJDP administrator Bob Listenbee, more than four dozen staff from various justice department agencies attended. 
Maryland Justice Reinvestment Act

As part of our state based work, JPI provided comprehensive support to advance the Justice Reinvestment Act (JRA) in the Maryland legislature; a bill aimed at safely reducing the prison population and reinvesting expected saving in other areas that promote public safety. During this same session, JPI supported several initiatives including: removing barriers to employment for returning citizens through policy changes aimed at  expungement and shielding of criminal records, and remo ving the governor from the parole process for people serving parole eligible for life sentences in Maryland. Welcome Jamille!

As JPI's Office Administrator, Jamille White works to facilitate the management of human resources, finances, and other various daily logistics to ensure smooth organizational operations.  She has a passion for creating, installing, and introducing management systems that enhance efficiency and productivity within the organization, while helping to guide teams to accomplish goals.  We are excited about the experience and passion Jamille brings to our team, and are pleased to welcome her!
